| An Aotearoa where all children flourish, free from poverty. |
| The latest statistics on child poverty in New Zealand are devastating with rates going up on two of the three primary measures* For those like you, that believe we can end child poverty in this generation it is a call to action, to do all we can, and to do it now. |
| Today as Executive Officer of CPAG I am asking you to give towards long lasting change – the mahi that will achieve zero child poverty. Child Poverty Action Group is the only charity of its kind in New Zealand focused on systems change to end child poverty. As you know we are a leading independent voice of research and education that leads to policy action. Each of us believes the impossible is possible- zero child poverty. Your gift today is needed. $50 to place evidence-based solutions to child poverty in media across the country (we had 546 mainstream media mentions in 2023*) $120 can help coordinate actions to respond to attacks such as those on hungry children and the homeless (saving lunches in schools and defending public housing) $333 can go towards research on the causes and solutions to child poverty. (CPAG new analysis on rental affordability 2023 , school children working to pay household bills and food 2024*) A gift of any size is appreciated. As we prepare for our next financial year on the 31 March, knowing there are supporters across the country, encourages and motivates us as staff and volunteers. As a registered charity your gift is eligible for a tax credit of 33.33% |
| There is an urgency to my request. The cost of living crisis has put everyone on edge and politicians are making reactive policies without any evidence or analysis. The latest statistics on child poverty combined with what we are seeing on the ground means we need to be responding quickly and effectively, to further protect children from being swept and locked into poverty. The decisions made right now will impact us all. Your voice, your support and our collective action will take us to a future where no child in Aotearoa faces poverty. This is a legacy we give our country, our children and ourselves. Thank you for your kind support. Ngā mihi nui, Sarita Divis – BA/Bcom MTaxS(hons) Executive Officer P.S The image above is one I came across on my phone the other day of my son and his Nani. It reminded me why we do this –to end to child poverty in this generation for all our generations. Thank you for your commitment to this mahi.
